How to convert pounds per square inch to kilopascals
1 psi ≈ 6.89476 kPa
1 psi ≈ 6.894757 kPa (NIST SP 811; Handbook 44 App. C). The psi is built from the exact pound, standard gravity and inch, so this factor is fixed.
Examples
- 30 psi = 206.84272 kPa: an air-compressor gauge reading
- 8.5 psi = 58.605437 kPa: lowest match-ball pressure allowed by football’s Laws of the Game (IFAB)
- 120 psi = 827.37088 kPa: a road-bike pump gauge reading

Common mistakes
- kPa and MPa differ by 1,000: 1 MPa is 1,000 kPa, about 145 psi.
- 100 kPa is exactly 1 bar, so dividing a kPa result by 100 gives bar.
