How to use
- For each assignment, quiz or exam, enter the score: a percentage (92) or points (45/50).
- Enter each item’s weight from your syllabus, such as 20%.
- To count everything equally, leave every weight blank.
- Read your current grade, the letter grade and how much each item adds.
Weighted grade formula
Grade = Σ (score × weight) ÷ Σ weights
Dividing by the weights you entered gives your grade on the work marked so far. If they add up to 80%, the other 20% is still to come.
To turn points into a percentage, divide the points earned by the points possible and multiply by 100: 45/50 = 90%.
Examples
- Homework 90% (20%), quizzes 85% (20%), midterm 78% (25%), project 92% (15%): (1,800 + 1,700 + 1,950 + 1,380) ÷ 80 = 85.38%, a B.
- Equal weights, scores 88, 76 and 93: 257 ÷ 3 = 85.67%, also a B.

Rounding and unusual weights
We compare your exact percentage with each cut-off, so 89.5% is a B+ here. Some teachers round to a whole number first, which would make it a 90 (A−).
If your weights add up to more than 100%, each one counts in proportion to the total.
