How to convert degrees Fahrenheit to kelvins
K = °F × 0.555556 + 255.3722
K = (°F + 459.67) ÷ 1.8, exactly (NIST SP 811 B.9). Equivalently, convert to Celsius first and then add 273.15.
Examples
- 98.6 °F = 310.15 K: Average normal body temperature in Fahrenheit (MedlinePlus (NIH))
- -459.67 °F = -5.6843419 × 10⁻¹⁴ K: Absolute zero on the Fahrenheit scale (NIST)
- 70 °F = 294.26111 K: A mild indoor thermostat setting

Common mistakes
- Never add 273.15 straight to a Fahrenheit value. Convert to Celsius first, or use the 459.67 formula.
