How to use
- In I know my, choose the size you know: US men’s, US women’s, UK, EU or foot length.
- Type the size, such as 9 or 8.5, or your foot length.
- In Convert to, choose the system you want. Every other system is listed too.
To measure, stand on paper, mark your heel and longest toe, and measure between the marks. Use your longer foot.
How the conversion works
Shoe sizes count the length of the last, the foot-shaped form a shoe is built on. It is longer than your foot, so the converter adds 2/3 inch (about 1.7 cm), two size steps.
- UK: 3 × last length in inches − 25. Each size is a barleycorn, 1/3 inch.
- US men’s: UK + 1. A US men’s size 1 fits a 7 2/3-inch foot.
- US women’s: US men’s + 1.5, the gap Nike uses.
- EU: 1.5 × last length in cm. Each size is a Paris point, 2/3 cm.
- Mondopoint (ISO 9407): your foot length in millimeters.
Results are rounded to the nearest half size.
Examples
- US men’s 9: UK 8, US women’s 10.5, EU 42, for a foot about 26.2 cm long
- EU 38: US women’s 7.5 or UK 5, for a foot about 23.6 cm long
- A 26.5 cm foot: US men’s 9.5, US women’s 11, EU 42.5

More detail: why size charts disagree
- No single rule links the systems. ISO 19407 publishes conversion tables but presents them as a guide.
- Brands use their own lasts. Nike’s chart puts US men’s 9 at EU 42.5, where this standard formula gives EU 42.
- Some retailers use a half-size gap between UK and US men’s sizes instead of a full size.
- The Brannock measuring device puts US women’s sizes one above men’s, not 1.5.
- Width is separate and not covered here, and neither are children’s sizes.
