How to convert gigabytes to megabytes
1 GB = 1,000 MB
1 GB = 1,000 MB exactly, because SI prefixes are powers of 10 (SI Brochure): multiply GB by 1,000. The binary pair differs: 1 GiB = 1,024 MiB exactly (NIST).
Examples
- 64 GB = 64,000 MB: a phone storage tier
- 2 GB = 2,000 MB: a small mobile data allowance
- 1.5 GB = 1,500 MB: a film download

Common mistakes
- Device capacities use decimal GB, so a 64 GB device holds 64,000 MB before formatting; usable space is lower because the system and formatting take some.
