How to convert terabytes to gigabytes
1 TB = 1,000 GB
1 TB = 1,000 GB exactly under the SI decimal prefixes (SI Brochure): multiply TB by 1,000. In binary units, 1 TB is about 931.32 GiB, and 1 TiB = 1,024 GiB exactly.
Examples
- 1 TB = 1,000 GB: a drive sold as one terabyte
- 2 TB = 2,000 GB: an external backup drive
- 4 TB = 4,000 GB: a network storage drive

Common mistakes
- TB and TiB differ by about 10% (1 TiB is about 1.0995 TB), so the apparent shortfall grows with drive size.
- Formatted capacity is a little lower than the label because the file system and operating system use some space.
