How to convert gigabytes to terabytes
1 GB = 0.001 TB
1 TB = 1,000 GB exactly (SI prefixes are powers of 10, SI Brochure): divide GB by 1,000. The binary equivalent is 1 TiB = 1,024 GiB exactly.
Examples
- 500 GB = 0.5 TB: a laptop drive
- 750 GB = 0.75 TB: a photo library to back up
- 2,500 GB = 2.5 TB: a video archive measured in gigabytes

Common mistakes
- A drive sold as 1 TB holds 1,000,000,000,000 bytes. Software counting in binary shows about 931 GiB, often labelled "GB", so nothing is missing.
